Two very different weeks in Monterrey
Timofeeva's run has been a sequence of escapes: almost three hours and two tiebreaks against Tararudee, then another near-three-hour win over Rakhimova from a deciding set that looked gone, and only after that a quick win over Zhang. Her tennis runs on movement, defence and long rallies, which is precisely the account she has been drawing down all week. Her second serve has been leaking double faults in clusters across all three matches.
Li's week has been shorter and simpler. She dismantled Osorio in just over an hour, taking the ball early and refusing to let the rallies stretch out. That pattern has already been tested against this opponent: in Athens she won 6-2 6-1 without allowing a single loose passage.
Where the price is wrong
The market has paid handsomely for a qualifier's momentum and rather less attention to her recovery time. Li removes the preparation time Timofeeva needs and attacks a second delivery that has been unreliable since the first round.
Li's habit of drifting in the closing games of sets is real, and against a player who has already survived three hopeless positions it keeps the handicap unappealing. The straight win is the cleaner route at this price.
